The Importance of Business Location after COVID-19

It’s as obvious as the grass is green. COVID-19 has changed the world. And not just in the context of how we react to viruses or appreciate time with our loved ones, it has vastly changed the landscape of the business world. First and foremost, employees learned that they want to work for a company that allows them to take sick leave and be there for their children and significant others. They want a company that will let them work remotely and have a better work-life balance. They want to be able to put their kids on the bus in the morning and then sit down and go back to checking their emails. So what does this mean for businesses?

As everyone was trying to navigate through the pandemic, many businesses let their employees have the flexibility listed above. It helped improve retention rates through the pandemic and after. Now that we are slowly reemerging into the “normal” world, many businesses have opted for their employees to choose to stay remote, come into the office as usual, or utilize a hybrid system. And for companies that already had a headquarters and an established presence, this is great. But start-ups may not have this same flexibility. So how should they pick a location or even a working style and still be able to entice applicants to work there?

There is no single answer to this and most of it will depend on what you’re looking for. If you just want there to be enough room for employees to come in even if they don’t do it every day, maybe you need more conference rooms than cubicles or offices. If you want your team to meet work fully remotely and only come in for quarterly meetings, maybe a couple of offices and high-tech video conferencing software is where you should focus. Or even if you want to stick with the traditional layout and have all employees come in every day but be a little lenient with sick days. Whatever works for you is what we’ll build.
